STEP
AEROBICS
Today over a third of adults are obese and there are literally
millions of people who want to lose body fat quickly.
Step aerobics is a great option for the obese as well as those who simply want to shed unwanted body fat and increase their
health.
Additionally, adding step aerobics to you daily exercise regime or to your home is
easy and affordable.
Step equipment is inexpensive and step aerobics is compact enough to do right in
your home.
Step aerobics is a type of aerobic exercise (exercise that elevates the heart rate
to 70 to 80 percent) that is performed on and off a step of various heights.
A series of dance like moves that include stepping up and down on a step is what
makes up step aerobic exercises.
Most people start with a basic 4 inch step; however, steps can be stacked to create
a larger step to make the workout more difficult and more effective for the experienced.
The step bench used in the exercises can be stored while not in use easier than
other exercise equipment making it a perfect option for homes that do not spatially allow a workout room. The bench
is made of sturdy plastic and is often adjustable or is made to stack additional benches to raise the
height.
The step aerobics workout essentially involves stepping up and down off the step.
The targeted area is the leg muscles and the glutes. When you combine a faster paced routine into the workout the
heart rate increases to an aerobic level and the workout becomes energized and fun.
Step aerobics can be done along with a myriad of dvd’s at home or is often offered
at health gyms in a group program. The benefits are plenty including weight loss, increased energy, and increased
overall health.

A few considerations and safety tips for step aerobics include: warm-ups, proper
step height, knowing your limits, proper attire and focus. Before beginning your step workout you will need to warm
up your muscles to avoid injury.
Ensuring you are using the right step height for your experience and health level is
important; don’t get a head of yourself, start small and work your way up.
Understand when your body is telling you to take it easy, if it hurts or you become
dizzy or out of breath stop! Wear good fitting tennis shoes and pants that are not so long that you will trip on
them.
Finally pay attention to where you are stepping! When stepping on and off the step
it is important that you step carefully so that you do not fall off the step or you do not twist your ankle when
stepping off the step.
A good step aerobic workout is easy to do at home, inexpensive and an ideal way to
lose that unwanted body fat. The workout dvd’s available are varied enough to
fit the beginner as well as the advanced and provide fun fitness for everyone in-between.
